Red Wing Earns the Minnesota Clean Energy Community Award

Red Wing Earns the Minnesota Clean Energy Community Award
The City of Red Wing was one of seven Minnesota communities that received 2018 Clean Energy Community Awards on March 28 at the Community Driven Clean Energy Conference in St. Cloud. The awards were sponsored and presented by the Minnesota Department of Commerce.

The awards recognize communities that contribute to the state’s clean energy goals by planning and implementing programs, policies, and technologies that encourage energy efficiency, conservation, and renewable energy generation.

The City of Red Wing earned its Achieve Award for the “Green Wing Energy Action Plan.” The City teamed up with Xcel Energy and local volunteers in becoming Minnesota’s third “Partners In Energy” community. The goal of the project was to help residents and business owners save energy (and money) while promoting renewable energy.” At the conclusion of the project in 2017, it was estimated to have saved the Red Wing area 1,761,788 kWh and 146,197 therms.

The award winners were honored as part of the Clean Energy Resource Teams (CERTs) clean energy conference at the St. Cloud River’s Edge Convention Center.   A panel discussion to highlight the work of the award winners took place at the conference. The seven Clean Energy Community Award winners include the City of Red Wing, the City of Edina, Hennepin County, Minnesota State Mankato, Sustain Winona, Town of Crystal Bay and the City of Warren.
