The Red Wing Police Benevolent Association is proud to be hosting their 2nd annual “Country Music Spectacular” Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 7PM at the Red Wing High School Hovda Hall Auditorium. The purpose of the RWPBA is to promote social, charitable and educational activities among law enforcement officers, while cultivating a mutual response among their members and the citizens they serve. The RWPBA currently consists of thirty-three full-time Red Wing Police Officers, Red Wing Police Secretarial Staff, and some members of the Red Wing Reserve Officer Unit. Each member pays a fee to be in the RWPBA, which is a charitable donation that goes back to our beautiful community of Red Wing. The current board members serving the RWPBA are Erich Bettich as President, Ryan Sullivan as the Vice President and Scott Kochendorfer as the Secretary Treasurer. The money raised during this event will be used to support our Red Wing community and to help injured officers or families of officers who have been killed in the line of duty throughout the state of Minnesota.

The program begins with an Invocation and ends with a Benediction and features musical interludes by Ovation and the Red Wing High School Concert Band. There will be Color Guards and a Flag Raising Ceremony, Honored Guests, Logan's Proclamation, Gettysburg Address and Mayor's Remarks.
Keynote Address will be given by USAF Lt. Col. Jennifer Aasland. In addition, names will be read of the veterans from Red Wing who have passed since last Memorial Day and honor them with a Floral Tribute, Rifle and Artillery Salutes and TAPS.
Citizens are invited to bring their lawn chairs (there is no seating) and join together at East Bay Point Park to see how the community of Red Wing honors its departed comrades and celebrates Memorial Day.

8:15AM--Brief wreath laying ceremony at the Veterans Memorial in John Rich Park.
8:45AM--Red Wing Memorial Day Observance—LOCATION CHANGED TO CENTRAL PARK
The program begins with an Invocation and ends with a Benediction and features musical interludes by Ovation and the Red Wing High School Concert Band. There will be Color Guards and a Flag Raising Ceremony, Honored Guests, Logan's Proclamation, Gettysburg Address and Mayor's Remarks.
Keynote Address will be given by USAF Lt. Col. Jennifer Aasland. In addition, names will be read of the veterans from Red Wing who have passed since last Memorial Day and honor them with a Floral Tribute, Rifle and Artillery Salutes and TAPS.
Citizens are invited to bring their lawn chairs (there is no seating) and join together at East Bay Point Park to see how the community of Red Wing honors its departed comrades and celebrates Memorial Day.

May 29—Taking on Needles and Pills—6-7:30PM. One year ago, the Red Wing community came together for a broad discussion about drug use, abuse and addiction because it had touched many lives. This will be a presentation of the most current findings from neuroscience to explain what is going on inside the addicted brain. This community discussion will explore the causes and effects of abuse and probe the research and explain how recovery can be possible. | May 29 City of Red Wing Receives Historic Preservation Merit Award |
City of Red Wing Receives Historic Preservation Merit Award—May 29—6:30PM—Sheldon Theatre
The Red Wing Heritage Preservation Commission will be presenting on Award of Merit to the City of Red Wing and the Sheldon Board for the recently-completed renovation of the T. B. Sheldon Memorial Auditorium. The event will take place at the Sheldon Theatre; doors open at 6PM for seating, program begins at 6:30PM. Dr. Ronald Schirmer, will present "On the importance of this place: Ancestral Native American sites in Red Wing and their continuing relevance." There is abundant evidence of the importance of the Red Wing region in Native people's lives going back thousands of years. Many of their ancestral sites have been disturbed and destroyed, and more than a century ago most of the landscape was alienated from Native groups, but many other sites remain, and the region is still an important part of Native identity. Respecting, preserving, and interpreting the deep history of this place is about more than laws and ordinances, it is about maintaining an ethical and humane approach to history.
Dr. Michelle Terrell will also share information about discoveries made during archaeological investigations prompted by the construction of the new bridge over the Mississippi River. Through this presentation, learn about the history of Red Wing: how the city’s landscape has dramatically changed over time; how archaeologists do their work; and what the artifacts found tell us about living and working in Red Wing from the late 1800s through the 1950s. This event is Free and open to the public.
