Monday, April 15, Representative Barb Haley will host a series of four listening sessions in order to hear feedback and concerns from the communities she represents. Haley will hold one hour listening sessions in Cannon Falls, Red Wing, Wabasha, and Lake City. The events are open to the public; anyone is invited to stop by to ask questions and offer input on legislative matters, as well as learn more about Haley’s priorities for the remainder of the legislative session. “From healthcare costs to transportation funding to families’ tax burdens, a lot of impactful decisions will be made at the legislature in April and May,” said Haley. “I want to hear from folks about how some of the proposals being talked about at the Capitol will affect their daily lives. I’ve always believed our government should be an ongoing conversation between elected officials and the people they represent, and it’s important for those who are impacted by lawmakers’ decisions to provide their feedback. Mayo Clinic Health System Honors Those Who Gave Gift of Life—April 15—8:45AM Ceremony
Mayo Clinic Health System will host a flag-raising and short ceremony on the Red Wing medical center campus at 701 Hewitt Ave., near the flag stand on Monday, April 15. (In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the Garden View Café in the lower level of the medical center). April is Donate Life Month, which aims to raise awareness about the critical need for organ donation. Nearly 114,000 people are on the waiting list for a transplant and an average of 22 people die every day because the organs they need are not donated in time. Mayo Clinic Health System leadership and employees will raise a flag for the first time in Red Wing honoring those who gave the gift of life and encourage people to consider registering as an organ, eye and tissue donor.

“Spring Flood Run” Kicks off Riding Season: Enforcement Along Routes
April 20—Thousands of motorcyclists will kick off the start of the Minnesota riding season. The route takes riders along the scenic Mississippi and St. Croix Valley between the Twin Cities and Winona. Motorists need to use extra caution with as many as 30,000 motorcyclists riding during the event, to ensure a safe riding environment, law enforcement agencies including City of Red Wing, local police and county sheriff`s offices, will be along the route with extra enforcement to target speeding and impaired driving. Everyone needs to work together and share the road to make sure everyone stays safe this weekend and always.

HYPE will be visiting with Anne Jacobson, News Editor at the Republican Eagle (2760 North Service Drive). Anne will be covering the history of the RE, including how printing has changed and the impact of the digital age; how their markets and products have changed; and information on their operations, along with their parent company Rivertown Multimedia. She’ll also give a tour. This will be a really informative session, so please help us spread the word and encourage others to come. Board Training Program-United Way of Goodhue, Wabasha, & Pierce Counties is launching a new and exciting Board Training Program for young professionals. This program is designed to cultivate Board service skills; strengthen your network; learn more about local nonprofits; connect with local resources; Board training guide included. The mission of HYPE is to cultivate, inform and connect aspiring community leaders, ages 21-40.
