Oct 17    3M Fall Protection in Red Wing Named Outstanding Disability Emplyoyer
3M Fall Protection In Red Wing Named Outstanding Disability Employer By Minnesota Organization For Habilitation And Rehabilitation
Nominated by ProAct, Inc., 3M Fall Protection was named an Outstanding Disability Employer by the Minnesota Organization for Habilitation and Rehabilitation, MOHR, during National Disability Employment Awareness Month in October. This valuable partnership with ProAct, Inc. is being recognized as a model for other employers. The Award Presentation will be 9:30AM, October 17 at 3M (3833 Sala Way) with Representative Barb Haley and the Red Wing Chamber.

“Employers who hire individuals with disabilities and work crews are important partners in our efforts to provide person-centered services that improve people’s lives in Minnesota,” said Julie Johnson, president of MOHR. The organization represents more than 100 disability service providers across the state. “The 3M staff works with ProAct job coaches to bring out the highest potential in each person,” said Joyann Johnson, a designated coordinator for ProAct in Red Wing. A sizable work crew assembles parts for numerous types of safety equipment used by linemen, bridge builders and other professionals. 3M Focus Factory Leader Dustin Rassier said ProAct crews provide top notch work. “We are sending out product that ultimately has somebody’s life in the balance, so we depend on quality products going out the door,” said Rassier. “They fit right in with our culture.”

MOHR Treasurer and ProAct CEO Steven Ditschler will present the Outstanding Disability Employer Award at 9:30AM on October 17 at 3M Fall Protection 3833 SALA Way in Red Wing. State Representative Barb Haley (R-Red Wing) plans to attend and other area dignitaries have also been invited. Light refreshments will be served. MOHR’s mission is to advocate and support its nonprofit members in providing meaningful services to persons with disabilities and communities served. Celebrated every October, this year’s theme for National Disability Employment Awareness Month is “America’s Workforce: Empowering All.” It celebrates the contributions of workers with disabilities and educates about the value of a workforce inclusive of their skills and talents. The national observance began under a different name in 1945.

Oct 30    Public Tour - Xcel Energy Plant ( Steam Plant)
1PM-2PM
Xcel Energy Generating Plant (Steam Plant)
801 E. 5th Street
Xcel Energy’s Red Wing Generating Plant proves that a combination of ingenuity and technical advances can offer innovative solutions to dispose of municipal solid waste, or garbage. Built in the 1940s as a coal-fired generating facility, Red Wing’s two units were converted in 1986 to burn refuse-derived fuel. RDF is a fluffy, burnable fuel produced from municipal solid waste. The processed municipal solid waste provides a low-cost fuel alternative to generate electricity and reduces the amount of material going to landfills. Since 1987, Red Wing has burned more than 5.5 million tons of RDF and produced more than 3 million megawatt hours of electricity for customers in the community.
