| Join authors and National Geographic Adventurers of the Year Amy and Dave Freeman at Fair Trade Books (320 Bush St., Red Wing, MN 55066) when they stop during Pedal to DC, their 1,750 mile book tour by bicycle from Ely, Minnesota to Washington, D.C. They are sharing their new book, A Year in the Wilderness: Bearing Witness in the Boundary Waters (Milkweed Editions), and continuing their efforts to protect the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness from the threat of proposed copper mining. Through images, video clips, stories, and excerpts from their book, the Freemans will share the year they spent living in the Boundary Waters. From listening to a wolf pack run through their campsite as the lakes were freezing around them in the late fall to watching the loons return as the ice melted in the spring, the Freemans’ engaging presentation will transport you into the Wilderness and inspire you to help protect this national treasure for future generations. Everyone is welcome to come join us for the Sheldon’s Season Announcement Party, where they reveal all the upcoming entertainment for the 2018-2019 Season. Enjoy the season preview, wine & cheese and the inside scoop. In addition, this will be the launch party for the new renovations at the Sheldon Theatre that will take place May 27-Septmeber 29. Join the Chamber Staff & Ambassadors as we tie a Ribbon (instead of cutting a ribbon!) around the Sheldon Theatre to temporarily “close” it over the summer so the work can be done. The Sheldon Theatre will be temporarily closed May 27-September 29 for renovations. But fear not . . .there will still be Sheldon events going on in other parts of town. The Sheldon Staff, Board and Friends of the Sheldon will be using this opportunity to fundraise for the programming of the Sheldon Theatre for the future.
