About the Film:
The year was 1984 and the title of both the No. 1 movie and No. 1 album was, "Purple Rain". Three decades later the film got a remake in Niger. It's called Akounak Tedalat Taha Tazoughai — which translates to "Rain the Color of Blue with a Little Red in It." There's no word for "purple" in Tamajeq, the language spoken by the Tuareg, the nomadic people in the film.
A vibrant music scene has exploded among the Tuareg over the past few decades. This loose adaptation to the original Prince film tells the story of a guitarist and songwriter battling his musical rivals, overcoming family conflicts, enduring the trials of love, and overcoming his biggest foe - himself.
Yet, while the storyline has similarities, there is so much about the film that's different, including a heavily blues-influenced sound and daring love story revised to reflect the regions conservative Muslim background.
