Community Hike at He Mni Can - Barn Bluff—October 16—3:30-5:30PM
Co-hosted by the City of Red Wing and Prairie Island Indian Community, people can meet at the base of the bluff (at the end of East 5th Street); a light meal will be served at the base of the bluff after the hike.
People from all walks of life feel a strong connection to He Mni Can-Barn Bluff (pronounced Heh-Meh-NEE-cha), and each person has his or her own feelings about this place. As Mayor Dowse says, "In 2016, as the City worked on the plan for the bluff’s future, we learned—and finally began to understand—how sacred the bluff is to the Mdewakanton Dakota people of the Prairie Island Indian Community. Take this opportunity to hike the bluff and learn more about it!
